Contact Me

My name is Belén Curcio. I’m currently working as Software Developer/Frontend Engineer at Mozilla on a project called The Coral Project., where we build open-source tools for journalists and news rooms with React, Redux, GraphQL and Apollo. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of 10 I had my first computer. I couldn’t stop coding since then. My first IDE was Microsoft Frontpage, and my first experience with coding was ActionScript and QBasic. I was extremely impressed by how animations worked back then. SWF files (Flash apps) were everywhere! From games to websites, e-commerce to short films. It was fascinating how quick it was to build websites. Just by writing some HTML. It’s amazing how far we’ve come. Now we are compiling javascript applications through Babel! My main area is web platforms. I like to build and design web applications, good APIs and complex user interfaces. I consider myself a full stack developer but right now I’m focusing on the frontend world. I like to write JavaScript beyond the use of libraries and plugins and I always prefer simple "vanilla" js code when possible, although I'm currently working with React (ES6 + Babel) and I find it pretty fascinating. I have a strong CSS background and I feel pretty comfortable implementing the visual side of a complex UI. In my career I had the chance to work with designers and UX teams. At that moment, I realised the importance of working in interdisciplinary teams by learning from others, sharing our experience and exploring our passions. Experiences such as the JSConf and Meetup.js led me to engage more with the community not only as an attendee but also as a speaker. In my free time I like to contribute to the Open Source community and co-organise tech meetups. Our main goal as organisers right now is to Increase the diversity in our tech scene and provide support to minorities in tech.
