In this workshop, I will interactively approach the analysis and instruct the basic "mapping" of mis/disinformation using a structural, system-level approach. Moving through influential components including social media, search platforms, comment and discussion forums, and ad tech, this workshop will address the critical factors involving "fake news" through a practitioner-focused session and non-academic discussions. I will share a selection of free and open source software and applications I will use that journalists and media organizations may use after the event, but no prior knowledge or app installs are needed for the workshop itself.
