This would be a condensed version of a three-part series I taught at the Boston Public Library this January (see links below) that teaches participants how to visualize location-related data using CARTO (www.carto.com). CARTO is a powerful, open-source, online mapping platform that allows you to create, edit, and share spatial data. This workshop will enable users to create an account and learn how to make their own maps online. It will walk participants through the basics of using CARTO, including how to create and setup an account, navigate the portal, and make their first map. As time permits, it will delve into data-related topics, including how to upload, manipulate, query, and share their own data using CARTO as well as how to style their maps and leverage the power of temporal data for more complex visualizations. • skillsAndBackground No experience necessary. Familiarity with Google maps or even GIS or web mapping would make the workshop go even more smoothly. An idea of locational data participants would like to visualize or a specific project related to spatial information would make this most valuable.
